Editorial Standards

How we research, write, and review every peptide profile and article on this site.

Our editorial principles

Peptide Reference is a research database, not a clinical service. Every peptide profile is built around three rules:

  • Every factual claim must be traceable to a peer-reviewed paper, an FDA label, or a published clinical guideline.
  • Every peptide profile links to its source studies on PubMed so readers can verify any claim themselves.
  • Where evidence is preliminary, animal-only, or contested, we say so on the page.

Where our information comes from

Source material is drawn from the following hierarchy, in order of weight:

  1. FDA prescribing information and EMA Summary of Product Characteristics for approved peptides (semaglutide, tirzepatide, sermorelin, oxytocin, etc.).
  2. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses indexed on PubMed.
  3. Randomised controlled trials in human subjects.
  4. Open-label and observational human studies.
  5. Pre-clinical (animal and in-vitro) studies, clearly labelled as such.

We currently index 1,878 peer-reviewed papers across 109 peptides. The PubMed index for each peptide refreshes on a weekly cadence.

How AI is used

We use AI tools to help with two specific tasks: (1) drafting plain-English summaries of long PubMed abstracts, and (2) structuring data extracted from primary sources into consistent profile formats. AI is not used to invent dosage figures, half-lives, mechanisms, or risk profiles.

AI-generated paper summaries are clearly labelled and always sit alongside a link to the original PubMed entry so readers can read the abstract or full text directly.

Review process

Each peptide profile is reviewed by the Peptide Reference Editorial Team before publication and re-checked when the peptide's PubMed index updates with new high-impact research.

The "Last reviewed" date on each peptide page reflects the most recent editorial pass.

Corrections policy

Spotted a factual error? Please email corrections@peptide-reference.com with the page URL and the source for the correction.

Verified corrections are applied within 7 days. Substantive changes are noted at the bottom of the affected page with the date the correction was made.

Conflicts of interest & affiliate disclosure

Some pages include affiliate links to peptide research-grade suppliers and to Amazon for ancillary supplies (bacteriostatic water, syringes, alcohol swabs). Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" and disclosed on every page they appear.

We do not accept payment to alter the content of a peptide profile, change rankings on the compare pages, or remove safety information. Editorial content is independent of affiliate revenue.

Not medical advice

Everything on Peptide Reference is for educational and research reference only. Many peptides covered are not approved for human use in any jurisdiction. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting, stopping, or changing any medication or peptide. See our full medical disclaimer.
